Issues research carried out by the team in recent years:

Department of Testing and Development of Soil Cultivation and Crops Harvesting Machines has instruments for measuring parameters characterizing the quality of machines and tools for cultivation in terms of efficiency, maintaining the set operating parameters, quality, loosening the soil and improve its ability to filter the water. Soil condition rating is very important in simplified cultivation technology as well as organic farming methods, which are based on proper soil fertility and sustainable performance providing resistance to erosion, compaction, leaching and crusting.

Use of equipment in research examples:

Double Ring Infiltrometer - Eijkelkamp

The measure of infiltration of water into the soil is an important indication concerning: the efficiency of irrigation and drainage, optimizing the availabilityof water for plants, improving the yield of crops and minimizing erosion. The standard set of the double ring infiltrometer consists of a number of sets of stainless steel rings with different diameters (for reasons of transportation). Several measurements can be executed simultaneously, yielding a very reliable and accurate mean result. As vertically infiltrated water runs away to the sides, the outer ring of the infiltrometer serves as a separation. The measurements exclusively take place in the inner ring through which the water runs virtually vertical. The ring infiltrometer may be used for determining the rate of infiltration and capacity for irrigation and drainage projects, studying drainage, determining the intensity of artificial precipitation and the effect of treatment of the soil.

Soil Profile Sampling Set - Eijkelkamp

Sampling of soil (from the deeper layers) is very labor intensive because it requires perform a deep open pits. The sampling kit enables fast acquisition soil samples without performing open pit. Kit allows to perform deep hole (up to 2 m) and taking a sample from that depth. During sample collection does not occur squeezing and mixing of different layers of soil. On the basis of the samples taken we can determine the depth of the root system and its density and the condition of the individual layers of the soil profile in order to locate physical barriers (excessive brevity) or chemical (acidic layer) and elution the dust parts into the deeper layer of the soil. Soil profile sampling set in conjunction with infiltrometer allows to specify the state of the soil, its impact on the roots of plants and water filtration, and thus yielding of plants.

Penetrograph (up to 80 cm) - Eijkelkamp

The penetrograph is a devise for determination of the penetration resistance of the ground in measuring range up to 5000 kPa and is suitable for measurements at depths up to 0.80 m. Continuous measurements can be made with the penetrograph, recording each layer of the ground profile up to 0.80 m on the chart. Detailed measurements of soil compaction are useful, inter alia, to determine its positive changes in the result of cultivation or negative changes as a result of excessive compaction under the pressure of tractors and machines moving on the field. Thanks to the large depth probing which may help detect the depth at excessively thickened layers in the soil profile, which impede the circulation of water and air in the soil and plant root development.

Gas Meter - Alter

GasHunter is a portable gas measurement device for measuring up to four gases. GasHunter IR has been designed to measure explosion (flammable) and toxic gases, CO2 and oxygen losses. For measurement of explosive and flammable gases catalyst sensor is used, and for the measurement of toxic gases and oxygen, high electrochemical sensors. Construction of equipment provides the possibility of their use in hazardous areas classified as Zone 1 and Zone 2 explosion hazard of gases, vapors or mists explosion groups IIA, IIB and IIC and temperature classes T1, T2, T3, and T4. Names, values and units of measured values are displayed on the LCD. Installed sensors: NH3 - possible to use for ammonia emissions testing.
